Changing a beam on a Harris Tweed® loom is no small task, where even for the most skilled weavers, it can take up to 4 hours. Watch it happen here, on our Story Room demonstration loom. Each new beam has been carefully prepared in the mill with up to 1,500 threads stretched across in sections, along with the bobbins for the weft and the pattern card carrying the weaving instructions.The process begins with removing the old beam, cutting off the finished tweed, and fitting the new one.
